RTL Hungary, TV2 Denmark get wise to Nation’s Dumbest format

Montreux Film and Fjernsyn’s gameshow format Nation’s Dumbest

CONTENT EUROPE: Hungary’s RTL and TV2 in Denmark have commissioned local adaptations of Norwegian comedy gameshow format Nation’s Dumbest.

Created by Montreux Film and Fjernsyn, the format is distributed by BBC Studios, which has sealed the new deals.

In Denmark, TV2 has ordered an eight-part series, produced by BBC Studios Denmark Productions. The show has already been recorded and is set to air later this year.

In Hungary, RTL is preparing its own local version of the hit format, with filming scheduled for late summer 2026.

In France, the show, produced by BBC Studios France Productions, launched on commercial channel TF1 and delivered a peak audience of 4.6 million viewers and a 24.7% market share across its opening night. In Sweden, the format drew more than 1.1 million viewers for TV4.

Nation’s Dumbest flips the traditional competition format on its head with a cast of celebrities taking on a mix of physical and knowledge-based challenges, all aiming to be eliminated before the final and avoid being crowned the nation’s dumbest.

Sumi Connock, executive VP of creative network and formats at BBC Studios, who is appearing at C21’s Content Europe event in Lisbon this week, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with RTL Hungary and TV2 Denmark to bring Nation’s Dumbest to new audiences. It delivers big, playful entertainment but also has real warmth – giving viewers a chance to see celebrities at their most human. That balance is proving key to its growing international appeal.”
