Rick & Morty co-creator preps Fox show

US broadcast network Fox has ordered an animated comedy from Dan Harmon, the co-creator of hit Adult Swim show Rick & Morty.

Set in Ancient Greece, the as-yet-untitled series is due to premiere in 2022. The commission is part of the animation deal that Fox and Harmon, who is also behind US sitcom Community, agreed last year.

The series will be produced by Fox subsidiary Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers), with the casting process underway. Fox Entertainment has complete ownership of the project and is fully financing it.

The commission was announced by Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn, who said: “We are proud to be partnered with Dan on this series, which strengthens our hold on the animation space and, as we continue to build Fox Entertainment, marks an important first step for us with our first fully owned scripted property.”
