ReelShort, Endemol Shine Brasil adapt microdrama Married at First Sight in Brazil

De Repente Casados is an adaptation of a show that has racked up over 227 million views

Vertical content platform ReelShort and Banijay Americas-owned Endemol Shine Brasil have teamed up for a Brazilian adaptation of one of ReelShort’s biggest hits.

Scheduled to premiere on ReelShort on April 18, the Brazilian version of Married at First Sight – locally titled De Repente Casados – is directed by Rogério Passos and stars Laryssa Ayres and Ricardo Vianna.

Ayres plays a woman whose life is turned upside down when she crosses paths with a cold and calculating billionaire played by Vianna. He offers her a marriage of convenience that could change both of their destinies forever.

Endemol Shine Brasil has contributed its experience in production and localising content for international markets to the project.

Released in 2023, the original English-language microdrama has amassed over 227 million global views, according to ReelShort.

Both titles are unrelated to the hit unscripted format of the same name, which is distributed internationally by Seven. One Studios International.

The project builds on wider activity in the vertical video space from Endemol Shine Brasil. The company recently confirmed a partnership with Banijay Americas-owned A Fábrica to create a slate of microdramas.

Between 2023 and 2024, Endemol Shine Brasil produced a roster of microdramas in partnership with Kwai, spanning nine brands including Coca-Cola, Honda and Skol, within TeleKwai’s mini-drama programme. In the past year, it has renewed its partnership with Meta to produce vertical soaps developed for brands like Comfort.

Endemol Shine Brasil CEO Nani Freitas said: “Brazil has become one of the most mobile‑first entertainment markets in the world, and that shift is transforming how audiences consume content.

“In response, Endemol Shine Brasil is expanding its presence in this space, leveraging its expertise in high‑quality production and its ability to adapt global formats and guidelines into culturally relevant, locally resonant stories.”

Maritza Castro, Latin America lead producer at ReelShort, added: “At ReelShort, we believe great stories are built locally. Partnering with Brazilian talent and crews allows us to bring authentic, culturally resonant stories to life.”
