Pixcom partners Keshet, Thruline to develop Emily VanCamp legal drama Prejudice

Montreal-based production company Pixcom is partnering with Israeli producer and distributor Keshet International and US management and production company Thruline Entertainment to develop a Canadian legal drama called Prejudice.

Emily VanCamp

Canadian actress Emily VanCamp (Marvel’s The Falcon & the Winter Soldier, The Resident) has signed up to star in and executive produce the project, which was created and written by Celeste Parr (Ethel, Hudson & Rex, Plan B).

The series follows a rising Toronto litigator whose career and marriage to a senator are thrown into upheaval when her past as a sex worker is publicly exposed. After being scorned by her field and social circle, she launches her own law firm dedicated to defending others who have been silenced and delegitimised.

The companies said the project, which does not yet have a network attached, is being developed for the Canadian and international markets.

Several Canadian-made procedurals have secured sales into the US over the past 12 months as broadcasters south of the border, particularly The CW, have looked for less expensive programming. Among the Canadian shows picked up by The CW recently were police series Sight Unseen and Wild Cards.

Pixcom, led by president Nicola Merola, is behind series including Audrey’s Back and Wong & Winchester, while Keshet International’s US-based production company Keshet Studios has produced shows such as Echo3 for Apple TV+ and A Small Light for Disney+ and National Geographic. LA-based Thruline’s credits include Hulu’s The Great and AMC’s Parish, starring Giancarlo Esposito.
