Payne promoted, Torrance exits Endemol

Endemol has upped Southern Star CEO Cathy Payne to run its combined Endemol/Southern Star distribution business, while exec director of scripted Caroline Torrance is leaving.

Payne’s promotion follows Endemol’s acquisition of Australian outfit Southern Star earlier this year, which gave it a combined library of about 2,000 formats and 20,000 hours of content.

Reporting to Tom Toumazis, chief commercial officer of Endemol Group, Payne will move to London to take up the job, overseeing a library that includes key titles such as Home and Away, Hi-5, Extreme Makeover, Wipeout and Fear Factor.

As part of the restructure, Caroline Torrance will step down as executive director of scripted programming and distribution at Endemol International at the end of September.

A spokesman for Endemol said Torrance’s exit was a direct result of the restructure and was an “amicable and mutual” decision.

Torrance said: “As the Endemol and Southern Star distribution activities merge, the time feels right to move on. I have had the pleasure of working in a great company and with a wonderful group of people. I’ll miss them all but I know the distribution operation couldn’t be in better hands.”

Torrance has been director of scripted programming and distribution at Endemol International since January 2006. Since then she has been responsible for driving distribution of the group’s growing portfolio of drama programming around the world, as well overseeing global programme distribution.
