Ninja Warrior is heading to Latin America

LA SCREENINGS: Mexico- and Florida-based prodco Break the Format Media (BTFM) has optioned the rights to make local language Latin American adaptations of hit TBS format Ninja Warrior.

The reality competition series, known as Sasuke in Japan, debuted on TBS in 1997 and has since been sold to around 25 countries and territories including the US, UK, Germany and Australia.

The deal, brokered by distributor 04 Media in Hong Kong, Martha Contreras and Bellon Entertainment in the US, aims to bring the series to Lat Am broadcasters and platforms.

Executives at 04 Media said the agreement is part of its expansion into the Lat Am market. Gary Pudney, MD and founder at 04 Media, said: “We’ve been working with TBS in a variety of ways for a long time now.

“The show’s universal appeal and exhilarating format make it a perfect fit for audiences in the region. We want Ninja Warrior to captivate viewers and become a loved fixture in Latin American homes.”

Ricardo Coeto, co-founder and partner, BTFM, said: “We are proud to announce such a powerful alliance, we have been waiting for many years at BTF to be able to work in this format that will make history.”

Mayu Sunaga, director of global business at TBS, said: “It will be the 26th country, if Ninja Warrior is localised in Latin America territory. We are honoured to have an opportunity to expand this wonderful series to Latin America for the first time together with BTF Media.”
