Nine Network launches first reality microdrama Flex with Ronde Media

Flex is produced by Australian production company Ronde Media

Australian production company Ronde Media (Territory, Billion Dollar Playground, Bondi Rescue) has entered the microdrama genre with Flex, a new production commissioned by the Nine Network.

The microdrama genre has yet to compel Australian broadcasters into commissioning action, despite global trends.

Nine is positioning the new reality series as “Australia’s first micro-reality social media series” and charts the lives of seven aspirational, influencer-ready, twenty-somethings living in Sydney’s scenic Bondi and surrounding areas.

The format package includes 1-2 minute daily micro-episodes dropping on Instagram and TikTok with the full episodes of 22-25 minutes broadcast on Nine’s catchup service 9Now.

The protagonists include a former British soldier now operating as a high-paid male escort seeking an exit strategy, a gym addict launching her coaching business into a global brand and a Brazilian trustafarian trying to fund her high-end lifestyle without a job.

The series launches on Nine on April 24.
