Nine Network investigates Outback Murder Highway in new true crime series

Nine Network in Australia is preparing to launch a true crime investigative series from Ronde Media about the country’s so-called ‘murder highway.’

Four-part series Outback Murder Highway delves into mysterious disappearances and cold cases along the remote Flinders Highway, an 800-kilometre stretch of road between Townsville and Mount Isa across outback Queensland.

The Flinders has been known as Australia’s murder highway for decades, with 11 people documented as having vanished on the route between 1970 and 2017.

The series investigates some of those cold cases in immersive and forensic detail and is executive produced by Jo Townsend and Ben Davies for Ronde.

It features an FBI-trained criminal profiler, a prominent former homicide detective and a criminologist turned archaeologist. Each episode re-investigates these cases from new angles as the experts revisit the vast, isolated expanses of the highway.

The show will be broadcast on Nine and streaming platform 9Now from April 22. It will be supported by podcast series Motive & Method, produced by 9Podcasts.
