Netflix unveils extensive 2025 content slate led by Stranger Things, Squid Game and Wednesday

The final season of Squid Game will drop this summer

Streaming giant Netflix has unveiled a bumper slate of content for 2025, including new seasons of flagship global shows Wednesday, Stranger Things, Squid Game and Black Mirror, alongside UK productions such as new Steven Knight drama House of Guinness and feature doc Grenfell.

The streamer revealed a long list of programming, spanning scripted, factual, formats, films and unscripted at its star-studded Next on Netflix events in LA and London this week.

Popular scripted shows set to return this year include Emily in Paris, The Witcher, Ryan Murphy’s Monster, You and My Life with the Walter Boys. The unscripted roster includes a revival of reality dating series Temptation Island, new episodes of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, an as-yet-untitled Victoria Beckham profile and docs Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer and American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden.

Spike Lee-led documentary Katrina: Come Hell & High Water, being produced with Message Pictures, will revisit the 2005 hurricane that claimed 1,392 lives, marking the 20th anniversary of the disaster.

Speaking at the London event, Anne Mensah, Netflix’s VP for content in the UK, highlighted the importance of UK programming.

“Viewers love UK content that speaks directly to them, and that is my job,” she said. “There’s been discussion recently about what makes ‘British’ television. I’d suggest gently that it’s content made by British creators and loved by British audiences. I wouldn’t wall it off, make it exclusive, elite or only available on a particular service. Our job is to support and champion UK creators across all platforms, just most specifically at Netflix.”

Mensah then introduced two members of YouTube creator collective the Sidemen, KSI and Tobias ‘TBJZL’ Brown, who talked up the second season of their reality competition show Inside. Netflix has claimed more than 50 million people watched the debut season.

Brown said: “When it comes to the mainstream, it doesn’t get much bigger or better than Netflix. So, working with you guys, not only to be rich but to have a much larger audience globally, you kind of get that stamp of authenticity. We’re ‘certified.’ The money allows us to up the levels, raise the bar, push and to go bigger.”

Mensah also previewed Kudos-produced House of Guinness, describing it as “an utterly beautiful, dynastic story of the Guinness family set against the fight for home rule in Ireland”; and introduced a clip from Rogan Productions’ hard-hitting 1×90’ doc Grenfell, about the 2017 fire at London’s Grenfell Tower that killed 72 people.

She said: “From the biggest traditional dramas to the most important contemporary documentaries and looking to the future of UK entertainment talent, the book about Netflix is called ‘no rules’ and I like that we are not bound by preconceptions of what we can and cannot do.”

Other UK content includes Adolescence, starring Stephen Graham as the father of a teenage boy arrested for murder; Lena Dunham-created Too Much, featuring Megan Stalter as a heartbroken New Yorker who relocates to London; and action thriller film Havoc, directed by Gareth Evans (Gangs of London) and starring Tom Hardy.

Of Netflix’s returning global series, the third and final season of Squid Game will stream from June 27 but Stranger Things season five and the sophomore season of Wednesday have not yet been given official release dates.

February’s slate includes new episodes from Karate Kid spin-off series Cobra Kai (February 13), Sweet Magnolias S4 (February 6), military doc Surviving Black Hawk Down (February 10) and golf docuseries Full Swing S3 (February 23).

Tyler Perry’s deal with the streamer will this year include a new film called Madea’s Destination Wedding and the TV series She the People.
