Netflix has further bolstered its original kids’ line-up by picking up four animated shows, including a Tarzan and Jane series.

The US streaming service has acquired adventure series Kulipari: An Army of Frogs and Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane, as well as preschool shows Cirque du Soleil Luna Petunia and Puffin Rock.

Each programme will launch its episodes at the same time in all Netflix territories.

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane – from 41 Entertainment, exec producer Avi Arad of Arad Animation and ARC productions – is a modern eight-episode remake of the Tarzan and Jane stories. The show will premiere exclusively on Netflix during the second half of 2016.

Netflix is already working with the same company on a cartoon series based on the story of King Kong.

Cirque du Soleil Luna Petunia, which premieres in fall 2016, is a coproduction from Saban Brands and Cirque du Soleil Media. The 11-episode first season will chronicle the adventures of Luna Petunia, a girl who lives in our world but plays in a dreamland.

Kulipari: An Army of Frogs is based on a trilogy of books created by US football star Trevor Pryce, and is inspired by his childhood fear of frogs. The 13-episode season, produced by Splash Entertainment and Outlook Company, will premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix in 2016.

Meanwhile, Puffin Rock (39×7’) is a preschool toon about a family of puffins who explore their island home’s natural surroundings, with narration from Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd).

Penguin Random House Children’s, Dog Ears and twice-Oscar-nominated Irish studio Cartoon Saloon all partnered on the 13-episode season, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix in the US.

In addition to the new original titles, Netflix is adding three first-run exclusive kids’ series, including Russia’s Masha and the Bear, which will premiere this August in the US.

The Day My Butt Went Psycho, from Canadian animation company Nelvana Studios, will also be available in the US, the UK and Mexico. Preschool series Elias is now also streaming exclusively on Netflix in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

The latest additions to Netflix’s kids’ slate follow orders for revamped versions of shows including Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse earlier this year.

Netflix commissioned a spate of children’s series last year, including a Winx Club spin-off, a toon based on Saban Brands’ Popples and a series featuring characters from Mattel’s Ever After High franchise.
The company also has a lucrative content deal with DreamWorks Animation, which will see the Shrek producer create 12 animated series for the SVoD platform, totalling 300 hours of content, before 2017.
