Netflix rises for Daybreak

Global streaming giant Netflix has commissioned a dark comedy adapted from a graphic novel by Brian Ralph.

Daybreak is a 10-episode series co-created by Aron Eli Coleite and Brad Peyton. The pair will executive produce alongside Jeff Fierson, with Coleite serving as showrunner and Peyton directing.

The show follows a high-school outcast as he searches for his missing girlfriend while fending off zombies in a post-apocalyptic California.

In related news, Netflix is to adapt horror comic Locke & Key, with Coleite again attached to executive produce the project.

The IDW Publishing comic series was created by Joe Hill. A screen adaptation was previously being developed by Hulu.
