Netflix orders YA boarding school drama based on Curtis Sittenfeld novel Prep

Netflix has ordered Prep, a coming-of-age drama based on Curtis Sittenfeld’s bestselling debut novel, with Nicole Taylor (One Day, Three Girls) attached as writer and showrunner.

The series follows Lee Fiora, a scholarship student navigating friendship, romance and social class after enrolling at Ault, an elite New England boarding school.

Taylor will also executive produce alongside Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions, with Sittenfeld also serving as an executive producer.

Taylor said she had wanted to adapt the novel since first reading it 20 years ago, while Sittenfeld praised the scripts and said Taylor’s interpretation had given her a fresh perspective on the original story.

Prep adds to Netflix’s growing slate of young-adult programming, which includes Outer Banks, Ginny & Georgia and Never Have I Ever, as well as adaptations of books such as Finding Her Edge and My Life with the Walter Boys.

Netflix said its young-adult titles have generated more than 10.4 billion global views since the first half of 2023. The company also said the genre has accounted for an average of 30% of its most-discussed titles on social media each year since 2022.
