Netflix India to carry new originals and scripted from Bengali streamer Hoichoi

Hoichoi murder mystery series Madam Inspector

Netflix is partnering with Hoichoi to bring a slate of the Bengali streamer and studio’s scripted titles and new original series collaborations to its Indian audiences.

The alliance will bring all Hoichoi series premiering in the next two years to Netflix in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.

The initial roster of Hoichoi programming available to Netflix subscribers in India will span crime thrillers, detective mysteries, folklore horror, courtroom dramas and romance.

Titles confirmed include murder mystery series Madam Inspector, social drama Sampurna, Lajja, Eken Sirji, Anjaan Saaye, The Curse of Parnashavari, Bloodlines, The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga, Raat Abhi Baaki Hain, Achinta: Trial By Law, Shaadi Ka Siyappa, Queens and Parineeta: A Love Story and Mahanagar.

The first show to premiere will be folklore horror series The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam. It is scheduled to debut on November 6, with more titles to follow in the coming months.

The two platforms will also collaborate on original series, produced by Hoichoi Studios, that reimagine select Hoichoi stories. Netflix said details of the projects will be announced soon.

Netflix is already active in India’s booming media sector, with this year marking the 10th anniversary of the streamer’s launch there. In February, it revealed a slate of content produced in India.

In August, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos met Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative.
