Under the new agreement, Martin, who created the Netflix dark comedy thriller Wayward, will develop series for the streaming giant, in addition to fronting another stand-up special.

The formal agreement comes after Wayward performed well on Netflix, with the show spending five weeks in the top 10 global TV chart following its release in September 2025.

Martin also previously created, wrote and starred in the British romantic comedy Feel Good, which ran for two seasons in 2020 and 2021 on Channel 4 and Netflix.

“Over the last seven years I’ve been lucky to build relationships at Netflix that have felt supportive and creatively empowering, allowing my stories (and weird jokes about snow globes, etc.) to reach a global audience,” said Martin.

“I’m so grateful to continue that relationship, and this vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well! I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.”

Danielle Woodrow, Netflix’s director of content in Canada, added: “Mae is a singular voice who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything they do. We were thrilled with the success of Wayward and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.”
