Nat Geo acquires Boat Rocker’s Hidden Beneath the Cities for the US, UK

Boat Rocker Studios/Shark Teeth Films’ Hidden Beneath the Cities

Disney-owned National Geographic has picked up the US and UK rights to Hidden Beneath the Cities, a factual docuseries greenlit by Canada’s Boat Rocker Studios through a partnership with Shark Teeth Films.

The 10×60’ series, which uncovers the remarkable worlds that exist below modern urban cities, is among a raft of unscripted licensing deals struck by Boat Rocker in recent months.

Shark Teeth-produced series Secrets in the Sand was picked up by Hearst Network (UK, Benelux, CEE, Africa), RTI (Italy), WBD (US, Spain and Andorra) and JCG (South Korea). In addition, JCG picked up Shark Teeth’s Discovered by Disaster (seasons one and two), Secrets in the Ice (season three to five) and Secrets in the Dark, as well as season two of Forté Entertainment’s How I Got Here. In Canada, Blue Ant Media acquired Secrets in the Dark, Secrets in the Ice, Discovered by Disaster and Hidden Beneath the City for its T+E and Cottage Life channels.

Boat Rocker also lined up sales for several The Weather Channel series, which it distributes exclusively. Among them, select seasons of Weather Gone Viral were picked up by Disney (Poland, Hungary, Romania), WBD (Italy, Monaco, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Kino Polska TV (Poland) and Media Corp (Singapore).

In addition, TVA in French Canada acquired Fight or Flight Studios-produced Fast Home Rescue and Weather Top Ten; Italy’s RTI picked up Weather Top Ten and Prime Suspect: Earth; Blue Ant grabbed Canadian rights to two seasons of Prime Suspect: Earth; True Crime in the UK and Ireland acquired four seasons of Jupiter Entertainment’s Storm of Suspicion; and WBD (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) licensed Deep Water Salvage (10 x 60’), produced by Renowned Films.

Elsewhere, travel and food series Chuck & The First People’s Kitchen, produced by Trio Orange, was sold to CBC Gem in Canada (seasons one and two) and Hong Kong’s TVB (seasons two and three), while Unexplained Caught on Camera, produced by Back2Back Productions, was licensed to Mediawan for Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland.
