Mipcom attendance beats expectations with almost 11,000 participants

Mipcom 2022 attracted 3,100 buyers

MIPCOM: The organisers of Mipcom have revealed 10,896 delegates from 108 countries attended the event in Cannes this week.

The figure exceeded the expectations of the organisation, which forecast about 10,000 attendees, according to Lucy Smith, director of Mipcom Cannes.

Of the total, 3,100 participants were buyers, added Smith, and the countries that contributed the most buyers were the US, UK, France, Germany and Spain. The market had 321 distributor stands, including the large national pavilions.

“Our ambition with Mipcom Cannes was to come back with a bang and truly become ‘The Mother of All Entertainment Markets,’ and I think we’ve done that, with an annual, global event after what has been a very long three years,” Smith said.

Regarding MipJunior, the executive pointed out that the children’s content market welcomed 1,311 delegates.

“As we all know, the children’s content community is one of the most dynamic in the industry and what they tell us is that two days is not enough. After three years, everyone confirms that the combination of MipJunior and Mipcom is an unmissable date for them on the calendar,” she said.

Smith confirmed that next year’s MipTV will be held in Cannes between April 17 and 19. This gives it three days, one less than Mipcom and the number it used to have before the pandemic.

The market will be preceded by a “Super Sunday” that will function as a pre-market loaded with events.

“MipTV does not seek to be the biggest market of the year but rather the most relevant at the right time. And this year documentary and factual programming will take centre stage,” explained Smith.

The April event will include MipDoc, MipFormats, MipDrama and a new kids strand, as well as MipTV. “One accreditation, four markets,” she said.
