French group Mediawan has taken a majority stake in Rome-based prodco Our Films, the new production and film financing outfit formed by producers Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli (The Young Pope).

Mediawan said the investment continues its strategy of creating a pan-European studio with a global presence, dedicated to attracting best-in-class creative talent.

Launched in early 2024, Our Films collaborates with emerging European, US and international filmmakers on TV series, factual projects and feature films.

Mieli, the former CEO of Fremantle Italia, has produced films such as The Hand of God and Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla. Gianani’s movie credits include The Mafia Only Kills in Summer and The Eight Mountains.

In TV, they have teamed up on projects such as Joe Wright’s upcoming limited series M: Son of the Century, about the life of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, and My Brilliant Friend, which was adapted from Elena Ferrante’s novels.

Our Films joins Mediawan’s roster of around 85 production labels, which includes a 60% stake in Brad Pitt’s prodco Plan B Entertainment and UK documentary specialists Misfits Entertainment.

Pierre-Antoine Capton, co-founder and CEO of Mediawan Group, and Elisabeth d’Arvieu, CEO of Mediawan Pictures, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Lorenzo and Mario, two of the industry’s most accomplished producers of internationally acclaimed films and series, who inspire us with their taste and modern creative edge.

“Through Our Films, we are reinforcing our ambition to bring together the greatest talent behind the best content worldwide.”

Mieli and Gianani said in a statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to reunite under our new Our Films banner and join forces with the brilliant and passionate Mediawan team.

“Together, we’re building a new creative hub to support the world’s best filmmakers in telling bold and courageous stories that elevate our lives and the artform through shared cinematic excellence. This is the goal for Our Films.”
