Maipo Film starts work on third run of oil boom drama Lykkeland for Norway’s NRK

Lykkeland has been sold into 60 countries

Norwegian pubcaster NRK is moving ahead with a third season of its original drama series Lykkeland (State of Happiness), about the oil boom in the city of Stavanger.

Local prodco Maipo will start filming S3 in March next year.

“We are not finished with this Norwegian story. We look forward to showing how the characters we’ve grown fond of are doing, and how they manage to adapt to developments in a new era,” said Synnøve Hørsdal, producer and managing director of Maipo Film, in a statement.

Mette M Bølstad is the screenwriter for the forthcoming season, as she was for Lykkeland seasons one and two, and Petter Næss is the conceptual director.

The third run will cover the period from 1987 to 1990. The main characters are largely the same as in the previous seasons but some new, bigger roles will also be added.

Broadcasters in more than 60 countries have bought the rights to the series, according to NRK.
