Lionsgate Television Group has promoted Scott Herbst to president, in addition to signing contract extensions with several key executives.

In his expanded role, Herbst will lead development, current programming, casting, music and scripted digital series within the TV division, which is part of US-based Lionsgate Studios. He was previously the exec VP of television and head of development.

The promotion comes after Lionsgate TV Group saw 12 of its 13 current scripted series receive renewals, including titles that Herbst has shepherded such as The Studio (Apple TV) and The Hunting Wives (Netflix). Other renewals include The Rookie (ABC), The Rainmaker (USA Network), Robin Hood (MGM+), Ghosts (CBS) and several instalments in the Power universe (Starz).

Its roster of new titles includes spy drama The Interrogator (Fox), Trauma (Paramount+, Prime Video UK), DINKS (Amazon MGM Studios, Publicis) and The Rookie: North (ABC).

Herbst will continue to report to Kevin Beggs, chair and chief creative officer of the TV group.

Elsewhere, Lionsgate TV Group also signed new long-term deals with head of current programming Lee Hollin and head of casting Marcello Bellisario.

“Scott is one of the most talented and respected executives in the business, with great relationships, terrific creative instincts and a strong track record of identifying distinctive material,” said Beggs.

“He is expert in developing the bold, noisy shows that break through the clutter and resonate with today’s audiences, and he has played an integral role in the success of our television business.”

Herbst added: “We have assembled a slate that reflects the ambition and range of Lionsgate Television. I’m grateful to Kevin for his trust and look forward to building on our momentum with Lee, Marcello and the rest of the team.”
