J-Lo’s World of Dance stumbles on NBC

The original US version of World of Dance

NBC in the US has cancelled entertainment reality show World of Dance, starring and executive produced by pop star and actor Jennifer Lopez, after four seasons.

The show’s fourth season, produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio in association with Nuyorican Productions and global dance brand World of Dance, aired between May and August 2020.

It saw dancers compete for the chance to win US$1m, led by a judging team from the world of music including Lopez, Derek Hough, Ne-Yo and Jenna Dewan. Acts are scored using a points system developed by World of Dance.

Since launching in the US in 2017, the format has been adapted in numerous territories around the world, with NBCUniversal Formats shopping it to markets such as Poland, Thailand and the Philippines.

News of World of Dance’s cancellation was first reported by Deadline.
