ITV, Adelstein form US venture

ITV Studios (ITVS) US Group has formed a joint venture with producer Marty Adelstein to create international coproductions and scripted projects in the US.

Tomorrow ITV Studios will develop, pitch and produce one-hour drama and comedy projects, with the JV headed up by presidents Adelstein and Becky Clements. Resulting shows will be distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE).

The venture’s first project is Aquarius, the David Duchovny crime drama recently given a straight-to-series order by NBC. ITVSGE picked up international rights to the show in April.

ITVS US Group said the new venture also has projects in the pipeline that will be coproduced with partners outside the US.

Adelstein, a founding partner of the Endeavor Talent Agency, has TV credits including Last Man Standing, Teen Wolf, Prison Break, Tru Calling and forthcoming ABC comedy Cristela.

Clements, who has worked with Adelstein for the past four years and is an executive producer on Last Man Standing and Cristela, was previously exec VP at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

The move adds another element to ITVS’s growing line-up of US production operations which expanded last month with the acquisition of Leftfield Entertainment.

ITV paid US$40m for a 61.5% controlling stake in Duck Dynasty producer Gurney in December 2012 and has since added reality specialist High Noon Entertainment (Cake Boss) for US$25.65m and spent US$30m on Hatfields & McCoys creator Thinkfactory Media.

In February this year it acquired a controlling stake in DiGa Vision, the New York-based reality and scripted prodco behind shows such as Teen Wolf, for an undisclosed fee.

Adelstein said: “While Tomorrow ITV Studios will produce pilots, the objective is to develop and package scripts with talent in a straight-to-series model as we’ve done with Aquarius.”
