History Hit, the SVoD platform co-founded by UK historian Dan Snow, has partnered with parent company Little Dot Studios to find and document the wreck of the Endurance, the ship that carried Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Antarctic expedition.

With the expedition setting sail next month, History Hit and All3Media-owned Little Dot Studios will produce a range of content covering the setting up of the expedition, the voyage and search itself, as well as the historical and scientific work involved.

Shortform content from the expedition will be distributed across History Hit’s outlets, which include a FAST channel in the UK, a website, a podcast network and social channels. The team will also be filming for a longform documentary chronicling the expedition.

The Endurance left South Georgia for Antarctica in 1914 but became trapped in pack ice. Shackleton undertook great personal risk to ensure all his crew survived and returned home.

Snow, who is also creative director at History Hit, said: “From the day I started History Hit, I knew this day would come. The hunt for Shackleton’s wreck will be the biggest story in the world of history in 2022. As the partner broadcaster, we will be able to reach tens of millions of history fans all over the world, in real time.”
