History Hit doc to retrace Shackleton’s South Georgia crossing expedition

Dan Snow

History Hit, the Little Dot-owned podcast, SVoD and content platform network founded by presenter Dan Snow, has partnered with the South Georgia Heritage Trust on a documentary recreating an epic expedition by famed explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Snow will join polar explorers Preet Chandi MBE and John Shears to follow the route taken by Shackleton, Frank Worsley and Tom Crean across the island of South Georgia in 1916 after the loss of their ship, Endurance, left their expedition stranded in the Antarctic.

Shears led a 2022 expedition that discovered the wreck of Endurance and will return there with a team in November to film the latest expedition. The as-yet-unnamed doc is due to air in spring 2027.

“Being part of the Endurance expedition led by John Shears [in 2022] was a dream come true”, said Snow. “Now, it’s a privilege to continue that exploration in South Georgia, along with John and Preet Chandi, and to capture the infamous traverse on camera with the History Hit team.”
