HBO preps Javier Bardem drama set in Miami from Fifth Season, Bill Dubuque

US network HBO has ordered The Spread, a Miami-set drama starring Javier Bardem (Cape Fear, Monster) and produced by Fifth Season.

The project is written and executive produced by Bill Dubuque (His & Hers, Ozark) and Sean Sansiveri, with Bardem also serving as an exec producer alongside director Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman, Layer Cake).

HBO is coproducing the show with Fifth Season TV. The other exec producers are Brad Weston for Makeready and Ian Stratford and Michael Bloom for Topic Studios.

The Spread takes place in a Miami that is emerging as a new centre of financial power, where industry titans, elite hedge funds, staggering wealth, sex and wild nightlife collide on a massive scale. At the centre is a billionaire determined to harness the city’s growing influence and unleash a fiercely ambitious group of players on the markets that power America.

“Having long wanted to set a scripted series in Florida, HBO couldn’t be more excited to explore the gilded chaos of Miami and bring it to life with this kaleidoscope of extraordinary, visionary talent who is as fearless as the story itself,” said Francesca Orsi, executive VP of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films.
