Greek drama The Great Chimera sets sail for Walter Presents, SBS, Rai

The Great Chimera

SBS Australia, Italy’s Rai and Walter Presents in the US are among a raft of international buyers to acquired Greek period drama The Great Chimera.

The six-part series, which is an original for Greek public broadcaster ERT’s streaming service ERTFLIX, was also picked up by RTVE in Spain, RÚV in Iceland and Hot in Israel. Germany’s Beta Film is handling worldwide sales.

Adapted from M. Karagatsis’ novel, the story follows a restless young Italian woman fascinated by classical Greek culture who falls in love with a Greek shipowner and joins him in starting a new life on the idyllic island of Syros.

The series is produced by Foss Productions (I’m Glad You Are Dead Now, Maestro in Blue, Arcadia, Milky Way, The Beach) in coproduction with ERT, Mompracem, Boo Productions and Beta Film.

The cast is led by Fotinì Peluso (Netflix’s Everything Calls for Salvation) and Andreas Konstantinou (Milky Way, Cloudy Sunday).
