FTV presells history doc trio

MIPCOM: The sales arm of public broadcaster France Télévisions has struck a series of deals in Cannes, topped by three historical documentary presales.

France Télévisions Distribution’s documentary series The Hollywood War (3×52′, 2×70′), made by La Compagnie des Indes, has been presold to SBS, TV5 Monde and the educational broadcast company UR.

Mussolini-Hitler: The Killers’ Opera (1×90′, 2×45′), from Artline Films, has been presold to Swedish pubcaster SVT and Belgium’s RTBF; and Paris Années Folles (1×52′, 1×90′), produced by Program33, has gone to TéléQuébec, DR, TV5Monde and RTS.

Straight doc sales include the controversial single programme Coca-Cola: The Secret Formula (1×52′), from Nilaya Productions, to RTBF, RTS, Kuchnia (Poland), TV4 (Sweden) and Radio Canada.

TV4 has also acquired Swedish and Finnish rights to a package of shows incuding Prostitutes of War (1×52′), from Télécran; Uprising (4×52′), a coproduction from Yami2, France 5 and Planète; Charles: The Destiny of a Prince (2×52′, 1×104’), coproduced by Artline Films, France 3, RTS and RTBF; and the collection Love, Hate and Propaganda (12×45′) from Radio Canada.

Discovery US has taken Apocalypse: World War One (5×52′), the latest instalment of the landmark series made by CC&C for France Télévisions, for its Military channel.

ZDF has picked five docs including Kennedys: The End of the Innocence (1×90′) from Program 33; Marilyn: Last Sessions (1×90′) from Les Films d’Ici; Love, Hate and Propaganda; Cosmic Shore (2×52′, 1×90′), a coproduction by NHK Entreprises and France Télévisions; and China: The Beginning (3×52′) from Gedeon, NHK and France 5.

Meanwhile, Malaysian distributor Edarwest has picked up nature discovery series Earth From Above (32×52′), from Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Société Européenne de Production, plus Somewhere on Earth (28×52′), coproduced by Patly Productions and France Télévisions. A Malaysian broadcaster has yet to be announced.

Elsewhere, new episodes of France 2’s drama The Agatha Christie Collection (12×90′), made by Escazal Films/France Télévisions, have been picked pick by MTVA (Hungary) and RTBF, with Sony Pictures picking up the DVD and VoD rights to coincide with the US launch of the series by Acorn Media Group.

And on the back of Mip Junior, Germany’s ZDF has picked up the second season of Lulu Zipadoo (104×13′), from Mondo TV France.
