French reality format The Fifty gets Spanish-language remake with Telemundo

Psychological reality format The Fifty

US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo is giving a Spanish-language remake to Banijay-owned French reality format The Fifty (Les Cinquante).

The remake, Los 50, is being produced by EndemolShine Boomdog, which sits within Banijay Americas.

This marks the first time the psychological reality format, created by Banijay Productions France for W9, has been adapted internationally.

The format sees 50 reality TV stars living in an exotic mansion and facing challenges posed by the masked games master. Contestants must forge alliances and develop strategies to avoid elimination and add to the prize pot, which can climb as high as US$400,000.

In France, the format has proven to be a significant hit for W9. According to Banijay, the show improved W9’s ratings by 48% and is also the most-watched programme on its streaming service 6 Play.

EndemolShine Boomdog produces unscripted series including MasterChef Mexico, MasterChef Latino and Are You For Real?, and scripted titles such as Subete a Mi Moto for Prime Video, Nicky Jam: El Ganador for Netflix and Todo Por Lucy for Prime Video.

“It’s the perfect time to produce The Fifty for the US Hispanic market as it entertains and taps into the desire for psychological gameshows, as well as connecting celebrities and their fans,” said Alejandro Rincón, CEO at EndemolShine Boomdog.

“We are excited to be the first country to add our local twist to this innovative IP.”
