France 2 brings classic format It’s a Knock-Out back to France with Banijay deal

It’s a Knock Out debuted in France in 1962 as Intervilles

Public broadcaster France 2 is bringing classic Banijay Entertainment format It’s a Knock Out back to screens in France.

Produced by Banijay Production Media, the high-octane, feel-good format is launching this summer on France 2 with four primetime live shows hosted by Bruno Guillon, Nagui and others.

Originally debuting over 60 years ago, the gameshow is a staple of French entertainment, known for its silly costumes, hilarious competitions and spirited team rivalry. The format has been adapted in more than 20 countries.

The show originally launched in France in 1962 titled Intervilles, part of the international Jeux Sans Frontieres franchise, and was adapted in the UK as It’s a Knockout from 1966 onwards. French iterations have aired at various points since on RTF, ORTF, TF1, France TV and Gulli, where it last aired from 2014 to 2016.

More than a decade since it was last on air, It’s a Knock-Out returns with matches between towns – Beauvais, Gap, Wallers-Arenberg, Coulanges-lès-Nevers, Bourgoin-Jallieu and Saint-Amand-les-Eaux.

Nagui, CEO at Banijay Production Media, said: “It’s a Knock-Out is an instantly recognisable and feel-good format that has captivated French viewers for generations. We are thrilled to bring a new, modernised version with all the original flavour. Showcasing team spirit, local pride and sportsmanship, it’s set to become one of the biggest live entertainment events in France this summer.”

Banijay Production Media, part of Banijay France, has built a foothold in music-based programming with the likes of long-running live music shows Taratata and Don’t Forget the Lyrics. More recently, it has moved into primetime gameshows like Spot On!.
