High Country from Curio Pictures is filming a new eight-part second season

Australia’s Foxtel Group has renewed original mystery series High Country from Curio Pictures for a new eight-part second season.

The first season of High Country, greenlit in 2023, was one of the final productions to be commissioned by the late Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s former long-running director of television. Starring Leah Purcell and set in the regional Victorian mountains, the series resonated with audiences locally and globally, attracting sales from BBC1 and Hulu in the US.

Foxtel Group’s director of scripted originals Lana Greenhalgh said the return of High Country is part of the group’s ongoing investment in developing original Australian narratives.

“Season one was hugely successful for the Foxtel Group, captivating viewers with its intriguing characters, unique mystery and majestic landscape. Binge remains committed to investing in premium storytelling and we are pleased to partner once again with Screen Australia, VicScreen and Curio Pictures to bring this authentically Australian story to life,” said Greenhalgh.

Created by John Ridley and Marcia Gardner, High Country will begin season two production in Victoria in November and is slated to screen on Foxtel and Binge in 2026. Cast announcements will follow in the coming months.

The series will be executive produced by Curio’s Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner in addition to Ridley and Purcell, with Greenhalgh and Penny Win EP’ing for Foxtel. Producers also include Rachel Gardner and Angie Fielder.

Season two returns to the Victorian high country, generating 895 jobs and has garnered funding support from VicScreen, Screen Australia, the ABC and Foxtel.

Global distribution will be handled by Curio Pictures parent company Sony Pictures Television.
