Fox starts Pivoting, renews Call Me Kat

L-R: Pivoting stars Maggie Q, Ginnifer Goodwin and Eliza Coupe

US broadcast network Fox has picked up a comedy about three women intent on screwing up their lives and renewed Call Me Kat, its sitcom inspired by the BBC’s Miranda.

Pivoting follows three women after the death of their childhood best friend. Faced with the reality that life is short, they make a series of impulsive, ill-advised and self-indulgent decisions.

Produced by Warner Bros Television, Fox Entertainment and Kapital Entertainment, the half-hour, single-camera comedy comes from writer and executive producer Liz Astrof (King of Queens, 2 Broke Girls) and director Tristram Shapeero.

The cast for the series includes Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Q, Tommy Dewey, JT Neal and Marcello Julian Reyes.

Fox has also renewed Call Me Kat, starring The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik, for a second season. Bialik also exec produces alongside fellow Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons.

Inspired by BBC Studios’ scripted format Miranda, the show centres on a woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that she can live a happy and fulfilling life as a single woman approaching 40.

Call Me Kat is produced by That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions and BBC Studios’ LA production arm in association with Warner Bros Television and Fox Entertainment.

Earlier this week, Fox greenlit two scripted series, one an adaptation of an Argentinian show and the other a multi-generational musical drama set in the world of country music.
