Espresso Media’s sales push blasts off with Nasa: The Future of Space

Nasa: The Future of Space looks at the people and tech leading the way in exploration

UK unscripted distributor Espresso Media is heading to Mipcom with a six-part series examining US space agency Nasa and its exploration plans.

Nasa: The Future of Space (6×60’) is described as “a cinematic journey into the laboratories where the next era of exploration is being built.”

It features the scientists, engineers and innovators working on intelligent robotics, laser communications, interplanetary landing, satellite servicing, space power and next-generation propulsion, asking not only where humanity wants to go but what technology will get us there.

In true crime, Espresso is taking Ronnie Biggs: Run to Rio (3×45′) to Mipcom. The series tells the story of the Great Train Robber’s three decades in Rio de Janeiro, told by Biggs himself and those who knew him best, including his son.

Espresso will also showcase a variety of history docs at Mipcom, including Tigran the Great: Between East & West (1×84’/2×42′), which tells the story of a king ranked alongside Alexander, Caesar and Ramses II who built a superpower stretching from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean.

Artavazd II: Between Rome & Parthia tells the story of Tigran the Great

Artavazd II: Between Rome & Parthia (1×52′) follows the aforementioned king’s son, caught between two rival empires in a story that brings in Mark Antony and Cleopatra.

The First Christian State (6×44′-56′), meanwhile, traces how a small kingdom’s adoption of Christianity in 301AD set off a chain reaction across continents, while Wine: The Story of the Drink of the Gods (1×44′) explores the sacred and deadly role of wine in the ancient world.

In arts, Espresso is presenting Mr Sabredance: Aram Khachaturian (1×50′), which profiles the composer whose Sabre Dance is still performed around the world.

New world affairs docs are also on the slate with Cyprus: The Divided Island (1×90’/2×45′) featuring interviews with political leaders from both sides of the divide and the head of the UN Peacekeeping Force, alongside social documentary 1 in 3: The Untold Stories of Abortion (1×56′), which gives voice to the emotional, social and relational realities behind a statistic that affects millions.

In factual entertainment, Espresso is bringing a third season of Special Vehicles (7×44′) to Mipcom, as well as High Altitude Carpenters (8×44′), which is confirmed for a sixth season from September 2027.

These are joined by food series Relish (12×30′), hosted by chef Yia Vang, who pairs dishes from different cultures to explore how heritage shapes what we eat, and Ball Kids (1×60′), which has been sold to Netflix ANZ and follows young tennis hopefuls competing to work the Australian Open.

On the digital side, Espresso has picked up 90 hours of programming from Trinity Content. Highlights include The Odyssey: The Real Story (1×61’), Wicked: The Real Story (1×61’) and The Real Top Guns (1×60’).
