Entertainment One boards cocaine-fuelled Spanish-language submarine drama

Operación Marea Negra

Entertainment One (eOne) announced today it has taken international distribution rights to a submarine-set drama, marking its first Spanish-language acquisition.

eOne will shop four-part series Operación Marea Negra outside of Spain and Portugal as part of its ongoing strategy to acquire a slate of compelling dramas from across the globe.

Inspired by the true story of a submarine with more than 3,000 kilos of cocaine on board that became the first narco-submarine intercepted in Europe, it follows the traffickers aboard the vessel and the investigators in their pursuit.

From Amazon Prime Video and Ficción Producciones, it is coproduced with Portugal’s Ukbar Filmes, Spain’s Federation of Regional Organizations of Radio & Television, led by TVG, and RTP in Portugal.

The deal was brokered by Noel Hedges, eOne’s executive VP of acquisitions and international distribution.

Other acquisitions in recent years include French-language series La Garçonne, Australian dramas The Newsreader and Upright, UK psychological drama The Teacher and Canadian legal procedural Family Law.

“With high-quality production values, a talented international cast and a gripping tale at its core, this exceptional true story is destined to captivate audiences as a true-event miniseries,” said Hedges.
