The Panthers focuses on a New Zealand movement inspired by the US Black Panthers

NEWS BRIEF: US prodco Endeavor Content has picked up the global sales rights to period drama The Panthers (6×60’), a New Zealand social justice drama that premiered domestically at the weekend on TVNZ.

The 1974-set series, made by Kiwi prodcos Tavake and Four Knights Film, tells the story of the Polynesian Panthers, a New Zealand movement inspired by the Black Panthers in the US. The show’s protagonist is Will ‘Ilolahia, a Tongan living in New Zealand who unites his people against the institutional racism seen in their new home, against the wishes of his conservative parents.
