Disney+ has commissioned a series adaptation of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla’s comic book Afterlife with Archie.

The live-action project comes from Warner Bros Television, with Greg Berlanti (You, The Flash) and Aguirre-Sacasa serving as executive producers via Berlanti Productions and Muckle Man Productions respectively.

The comic book, published by Archie Comics starting in 2013, sees the town of Riverdale being taken over by a zombie apocalypse, with Archie and his friends fighting to stay alive and keep their friendships and romances intact.

The show will premiere during Halloween 2027, said Disney.

In addition to Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti, other executive producers include Muckle Man’s Jimmy Gibbons, Berlanti Productions’ Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman and Archie Comics Studios’ Jon Goldwater. Both Muckle Man and Berlanti Productions have overall deals with Warner Bros Television.

“The world of Archie and Riverdale is the gift that keeps on giving. To bring Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s incredible story to life with our partners at Berlanti Productions, Archie Comics and Disney+ is a thrill for all of us at [Warner Bros Television Group],” said Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros TV Group and WBD’s US networks.
