Director Manuel Belmar to step down amid reorganisation at Brazil’s Globo

Manuel Belmar, Globo’s director of digital products, finance, legal and infrastructure, is leaving the company, the Brazilian giant has confirmed.

Belmar’s departure had been reported by the local press and was confirmed hours later on Friday by Globo, which framed it within an organisational restructuring.

The announcement was made by Paulo Marinho, CEO of Globo, who explained Belmar’s departure will be gradual and that the executive had revealed he intended to leave well in advance.

“Manuel Belmar, who two years ago shared with me his decision to end his executive cycle at Globo, is now beginning a carefully planned transition that will be completed during the first quarter of 2027,” Marinho explained.

As part of this succession process, Júlia Rueff will assume leadership of digital platforms, he added.

During the next few months, Belmar will remain in charge of finance and will continue to support Marinho on the main business agendas and in the process of searching for a replacement.

Along with Belmar’s departure, Marinho confirmed that Manuel Falcão and Pedro Garcia are also leaving the company.

Falcão has spent almost three decades at Globo. His position as head of brand and communication will be temporarily filled by Cristovam Ferrara, while Globo searches for a new leader for the new consumer and marketing division.

Garcia, meanwhile, leaves Globo after 45 years with the company, where he is currently responsible for broadcasting rights.

“Pedro, one of the founders of Globosat, accompanied and helped build transformations in our industry. With a deep understanding of the business, he made important contributions to the sports area, to building the content rights portfolio and to developing strategic assets for Globo,” said Marinho.

With his departure, Fernando Ramos will take over the new integrated distribution and rights structure.

“I thank Manuel Falcão and Pedro for their dedication and for their entire legacy, which contributed to building the Globo we are today. I wish Júlia and Fernando and all the leaders of the executive committee success in this new stage of our company’s evolution,” Marinho said.

The executive changes are accompanied by an organisational restructure. The main changes are:

• Creation of an integrated consumer, marketing and brand division, which will bring the Brazilian perspective to the centre of decisions.
• Integration between TV Globo and Estudios Globo, bringing TV closer to its main content studio.
• Expansion of the scope of strategy, which will incorporate the corporate governance function, to ensure decisions are connected with Globo’s priorities.
• Consolidation of distribution and rights into a single structure, expanding the capacity to capture opportunities and strengthen strategic alliances.
• Transfer of institutional relations, legal and compliance to the holding company, recognising the cross-cutting role of these areas for the entire Globo Group.

Marinho concluded: “The new structure takes effect today. I am confident that the new model will make Globo a more integrated, agile company, better prepared for the challenges of the future. Its success depends on a collaborative and innovative culture practiced daily, through the active participation of each and every one of us. We continue together to make history.”
