Del Barrio Producciones unveils scripted coproduction with Argentinian producer

CONTENT AMERICAS: Peruvian production company Del Barrio Producciones has inked an alliance with Argentinian producer Silvina Acosta to coproduce a scripted series focusing on female victims of abuse in Latin America.

Filming on the series, titled Mala Víctima, will take place in cities such as Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Lima, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago de Chile. The project is intended to have an international cast.

Michelle Alexander, CEO and director of content at Del Barrio, and Acosta, founding partner at Buenos Aires-based Sinapsis Producción, are presenting the project to buyers here at Content Americas in Miami this week.

Cecilia Gómez de la Torre, through Peruvian company Tondero Distribución, will oversee distribution of the series. It will target audiences in Latin America, the US, Spain and Portugal, as well as international streamers.

“The time has come to break the cycle that women endure in our region and other parts of the world,” said Alexander. “This series will allow us to portray those tragic moments that women face daily when they are victims of all kinds of abuse but they are the ones questioned.”

“No one is ever asked what they were doing when their cell phone was stolen. No one doubts the behaviour of a person whose car is stolen. But when a woman says she was abused, all the suspicions and questions fall on her,” added Acosta.
