CJ ENM sets sights on becoming ‘global AI studio,’ unveils kids’ toon Cat Biggie

South Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM has unveiled plans to become a “global AI studio,” using the controversial technology to revolutionise its business models and production pipeline across all genres.

The company hosted a showcase entitled K-content Meets AI: How AI is Transforming the Future of the K-content Industry at the CJ ENM Talent Studio in Seoul.

It saw senior executives explain how CJ ENM will embrace innovation through the extensive use of artificial intelligence to “pursue differentiation through its strong creative expertise.”

The company currently applies two proprietary AI production systems in its workflows. Cinematic AI is a system optimised for narrative content such as drama series and films, while AI Script is designed to help discover original IP.

Cat Biggie was produced within five months using AI

CJ ENM also presented a sneak preview of new AI-created animation project Cat Biggie, a non-verbal shortform kids’ show created entirely in-house in just five months. The 30×2’ series, which follows a cat who meets a baby chick and becomes its father, will premiere in July on YouTube.

The company now plans to expand its AI production processes beyond animation to TV drama and film projects.

Shin Keun-sup, chief strategy officer at CJ ENM, said: “We are applying AI across the entire content value chain – including planning, production, distribution and marketing – to expand AI content production across genres and formats. This allows us to secure next-generation IP.

“At the same time, we’re nurturing a new generation of creators equipped with AI technology, business, and content planning expertise, and expanding our AI team to position CJ ENM as a global AI studio.”
