CBS cancels CSI: Miami

UPFRONTS: Ahead of its Upfront next Wednesday, US network CBS has greenlit seven new series for next season, renewed plenty but cancelled dramas CSI: Miami and Unforgettable.

The network’s series pick-ups include dramas Elementary, Golden Boy, Made in Jersey and Vegas; comedies Friend Me and Partners; and unscripted format The Job, from Embassy Row Productions, Mark Burnett Productions and Sony Pictures Television.

CBS said CSI: Miami, the second in the CSI franchise, “leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade.” The show ran for 10 seasons.

The broadcaster has also axed drama A Gifted Man, with co-star Patrick Wilson yesterday tweeting: “So…shocking to no one: #agiftedman is done. Found out via email…and not from the network. Stay classy. Thanks to AGM fans! Great cast/crew!”

Comedy Rob and drama NYC 22 have also been cancelled, while CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: New York have survived. Sitcom Two & a Half Men has also been renewed for the 2012/13 season, marking the ninth season of the show and the second with co-star Ashton Kutcher.

Comedies How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly and The Big Bang Theory have previously been renewed for 2012/13. Likewise dramas Blue Bloods, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Person of Interest, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, The Good Wife and Hawaii Five-0, and unscripted formats The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss.
