CBBC, CBeebies stick with Jam comedy

The BBC’s two children’s channels, CBBC and CBeebies, have commissioned Ireland’s Jam Media to produce two series spun off from its hybrid live-action/animated comedy series Roy.

Little Roy (52×14′) is a co-commission from each channel’s respective controllers, Cheryl Taylor and Kay Benbow, and will air on both networks. It will follow Ireland’s “only cartoon boy living in the real world” during his younger years, aged five.

Meanwhile, CBBC has ordered another spin-off, The Roy Files (15×14′), which is currently in production with Jam Media. Again a mix of live-action and animation, the mockumentary shows Roy reflecting on past adventures.

Jam Media, which has studios in Dublin and Belfast, has worldwide rights to both series.
