C4 lines up The Audience

UK terrestrial Channel 4 (C4) has commissioned the makers of 24 Hours in A&E and Seven Dwarves for a new factual series that puts one person’s life-changing decision in the hands of a random group of strangers.

In each episode of The Audience, produced by The Garden, one person will have a decision to make. To help them, 50 members of the public will follow them for a week and draw on their life experiences to help solve the dilemma.

Details of the commission such as the number of episodes and air date are still to be determined but the format has already been picked up for international distribution by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVSGE), which has a first-look deal with The Garden.

The Audience will feature as part of the ITVSGE’s line-up of new formats, including The Ultimate Dance Battle and Please Marry My Boy, at MipTV in Cannes next month.

The Garden’s credits include 24 Hours in A&E, an observational documentary series charting the daily dramas inside a London hospital; and Seven Dwarves, a reality series about a group of dwarf actors starring in a pantomime production of Snow White. Both were commissioned by C4.

The London-based indie, set up by Dragonfly founders Nick Curwin and Magnus Temple in June 2010, also produced Perfume, a year-long look inside the perfume industry. The pair previously produced C4 obs doc series One Born Every Minute.
