BBC2 welcomes Chinese teachers

BBC2 has bolstered its factual offering with a slew of new commissions, including a show that will see four Chinese teachers placed into a classroom of British teenagers.

Chinese School (3×60′) will explore how the visitors cope teaching the students and compare the education systems in the two countries. The show is being produced by BBC Current Affairs and was commissioned by Clive Edwards, head of commissioning for current affairs. Executive producers are Sam Bagnall and Gian Quaglieni.

Britain’s Hardest Worker (5×60′), from UK prodco Twenty Twenty, will require a group of contestants to take on a series of tasks to prove their mettle to avoid elimination, while Back In Time For Dinner (6×60′) features presenter Giles Coren exploring the evolution of the culinary tastes of a typical family over the past 50 years. It’s being produced by Wall To Wall and was commissioned by Alison Kirkham, head of commissioning for features and formats.

Elsewhere, Mobile Phone Idol will take viewers behind the scenes of the annual competition that scours the UK to find the best mobile phone salesperson.

The 6×30′ show was commissioned by Tom McDonald, acting head of commissioning for science and natural history and will be executive produced by Samantha Anstiss.

Finally a new run of Scrappers, which first aired on BBC1, has been ordered for BBC2. The show is produced by Liberty Bell and explores the work of a family-run scrap yard business.
