BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland go dating in the metaverse with influencer Olivia Neill

Unreal! With Olivia Neill will debut next week

Youth-skewing UK channel BBC Three and BBC Northern Ireland have co-commissioned a documentary about dating in the metaverse from indie prodco The Connected Set.

Unreal! With Olivia Neill will air on BBC Three on May 29, followed by BBC Northern Ireland on June 14.

It is presented by Belfast-born social media personality Neill, who embarks on a journey across the UK to meet people who have formed relationships through virtual reality (VR) technology. Neill then tries VR dating herself to see if she can find her own Mr Right.

The executive producers for The Connected Set are Jason Mitchell and Tom Payne. The commissioning editors for the documentary are Mary McKeagney, Clare Mottershead and Julie Shaw, while Rosemary Baker is the series producer and director.

Mitchell and Payne said the documentary could act as a launchpad for a full series in which Neill explores the topic.

“With Olivia’s genuine intrigue and infectious passion for the subject and the people she meets, we’ve created what we hope will become an exciting fact ent series,” said Payne and Mitchell in a joint statement.
