BBC taps Attenborough for new site

The BBC has released its largest collection yet of natural history video clips on the internet, via a new website curated by Sir David Attenborough and featuring excerpts from some of his landmark series.

The Wildlife Finder site hosts more than 500 clips at launch, spanning 30 BBC series including Planet Earth, Trials of Life and Life in Cold Blood.

Introducing the site, Attenborough shares his favourite 50 clips, including the deadly interaction between chimps and colobus monkeys in Trials Of Life; the courtship display of the male superb bird of paradise in Planet Earth; and the spitting cobra in Life In Cold Blood.

“It has always been my hope that, through filmmaking, I can bring the wonder of the natural world into people’s sitting rooms,” said Attenborough. “The web has totally changed how we can link information, connect people and reach new audiences in an on-demand world.”

The clip of the veteran broadcaster looking at the lyre bird is still one of commercial arm BBC Worldwide’s most popular clips on YouTube.
