Banijay seals format rights deal for US gameshow Scrambled Up

Media giant Banijay Entertainment has acquired the global format rights and finished tape rights to hit US gameshow format Scrambled Up.

Scrambled Up comes from Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, Keller/Noll and Crazy Legs Productions, with Playing Field Entertainment handling distribution. It was picked up by stations covering more than 80% of the US when it launched last autumn.

Keller/Noll is the production banner of producing duo Cleve Keller and Dave Noll, whose credits include Chopped, Flip Side and America Says.

Hosted by Michael Yo, Scrambled Up is a word game in which four contestants use clues to solve jumbled words and phrases as the tiles unscramble, competing for a US$10,000 prize.

Originally launched as a daily syndicated gameshow in the US, it was renewed for a second season across multiple partners, including CBS-owned stations. Production recently wrapped on 160 new episodes, doubling its total episode count.

The series also has a dedicated 24/7 channel on Samsung TV Plus in the US and Canada.

Scrambled Up now joins Banijay’s portfolio of third-party formats, including Werewolves, Ninja Warrior, Stop the Train and Temptations Under the Sun.

Helen Greatorex, head of format acquisitions at Banijay Entertainment, said: “Gameshows continue to have proven value across every platform, and the US success of Scrambled Up already demonstrates it’s landing well with audiences.

“With all the right ingredients to travel internationally, the format complements our offering for Mipcom perfectly.”
