Apple raises False Flag with Thurman

US tech giant Apple has commissioned a remake of Israeli drama False Flag starring Academy Award nominee Uma Thurman for its Apple TV+ streaming service.

Suspicion has been greenlit out of the company’s UK office by heads of worldwide video Zach Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, and creative director for Europe worldwide video Jay Hunt.

It is being produced for the streamer by Keshet Productions, the UK-based production arm of the Israeli broadcaster, established in 2012 and previously behind series including Singletown for ITV2 and The A Word for BBC1.

The series is based on the award-winning Israeli series False Flag from Keshet Broadcasting, created by Amit Cohen and Maria Feldman.

Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) will star in the high-paced thriller about the kidnapping of the son of a prominent American businesswoman from an upmarket hotel in New York. The abduction is captured on video and goes viral, and four British citizens staying at the hotel become the prime suspects.

The series will also strar Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), Noah Emmerich (The Americans), Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror), Elyes Gabel (Scorpion), Elizabeth Henstridge (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) and Angel Coulby (Dancing On The Edge).

Rob Williams will serve as showrunner. The series is directed by Golden Globe-winner Chris Long and produced by Darin McLeod.

Williams and Long will also serve as executive producers on the project, along with Howard Burch for Keshet Productions, Avi Nir for Keshet Media Group, Anna Winger (Deutschland 83 & 86) and Liat Benasuly (Fauda).

Hunt is the former chief creative officer at commercially funded UK pubcaster Channel 4, who joined Apple in 2017. Erlicht and Van Amburg moved to the tech giant having previously been presidents of Sony Pictures Television.
