AOL launches UK’s On Network

AOL in the UK has linked up with producers including Endemol to launch a premium video syndication platform that includes both licensed and original content.

AOL On includes over 750,000 pieces of video content and covers topics including news, entertainment, style and technology. It will act as AOL’s video hub with content from a range of producers including international prodco Endemol, Scripps Networks International and ITN Productions available to subscribers, along with clips from shows including Supernanny and Embarrassing Bodies.

The service will be available via a network of publishers including Trinity Mirror, Telegraph Media Group and TalkTalk as well as the likes of The Huffington Post UK and AOL itself. An accompanying app will also be available in the UK from early April.

The new service is an extension of AOL’s existing video services that include Be On and video trading platform Adap.tv. Graham Moysey, head of international at AOL, said the service was being launched “at a time when there is an increasing appetite and demand for online video from advertisers and consumers.”

He added that the firm intended to increase the amount of content available over the coming months by agreeing more deals with content producers and publishers.

AOL has enjoyed success with its On Network in the US, where it claims to have provided one billion content streams and ventured into content creation through AOL Originals.
