Angela Bassett leads Lion Queen for Fox

Malika the Lion Queen will air on Easter Sunday

US broadcast network Fox has ordered a two-hour wildlife documentary narrated by actor Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got to Do With It, Black Panther).

From Plimsoll Productions, Malika the Lion Queen follows the lionesses of a powerful pride in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, focusing on the exhilarating and harrowing life of one lioness called Malika.

Exec producing are Plimsoll’s creative director of natural history Tom Hugh-Jones, head of natural history Martha Holmes and CEO Grant Mansfield.

Malika the Lion Queen will air on Fox on Easter Sunday and will be available on Fox’s AVoD platform Tubi later in April. Plimsoll-owned Magnify Media is distributing the doc.

“We’ve long been exploring premium wildlife specials that present an entirely new world full of emotional and aspirational stories that appeal to all viewers. In Malika the Lion Queen, we’ve found everything we were seeking,” said Rob Wade, Fox Entertainment’s president of alternative entertainment and specials.

“With Angela Bassett guiding viewers along with her hallmark grace and gravitas, coupled with mesmerising footage captured by the Plimsoll team, Malika the Lion Queen is perfect evening entertainment for the whole family.”
