Four-part project The Drive for Five will document the competition between the drivers, Doug Herbert and George Poteet, as they vie to break the existing land speed record for wheel-driven vehicles and surpass the elusive 500mph in hot rod cars.

North Carolina-based Herbert, a four-time Top Fuel Drag Racing World Champion, will lead a team called The Beast while Memphis-based Poteet, who holds the current record, will lead The Speed Demon team. The drivers will be joined by other current and former NASCAR and Formula 1 racers.

Executive producers include Ari Mark and Phil Lott for Ample Entertainment; Arielle Worona, Michael Schreiber and Adam Boorstin from Studio71; and Larry Aidem from Reverb Advisors. The project is not yet in development with a platform or broadcaster.

Recent projects from Ample Entertainment include The Invisible Pilot (HBO), Queen of Versailles Reigns Again (Discovery+), Kangaroos: The Story of Mala (Netflix) and Murder in the Heartland (Discovery+). It is also in development with European producer/distributor Fremantle on After the Fyre, a feature-length doc about Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland as he is released from prison.

Studio71’s recent titles include Plus One (Hulu), Mr Mom (Vudu) and the upcoming series Obi, based on Obi Arisukwu’s Instagram comic strip, which it is producing alongside Michael B Jordan’s Outlier Society.
