Indian streamer Amazon MX Player has ordered a local-language adaptation of UK reality series Rise & Fall, to be hosted by Shark Tank India star Ashneer Grover.

Banijay Asia has partnered with distributor All3Media International to acquire the rights to an Indian version of the format, which was originally produced by Studio Lambert (The Traitors) for UK broadcaster Channel 4.

Rise & Fall sees 16 contestants gather in a divided house where they are split into two groups, rulers and workers, with a cash prize that starts at zero and only builds if tasks are completed. But power is never permanent, so workers can rise to become rulers and vice-versa.

It comes after Amazon acquired a majority stake in Indian ad-supported VoD service MX Player last year.

Deepak Dhar, founder and group CEO of Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, said: “Rise & Fall is a story that brings to life the contrasts of wealth, privilege and survival – and we’re telling it in a way that’s never been done before in reality television.”

Sabrina Duguet, executive VP Asia Pacific at All3Media International, described Amazon MX Player as “a fantastic platform for bold and engaging entertainment.”

“Their expertise and reach make them the perfect partners to bring Rise & Fall to Indian audiences,” she said.
