All3Media-backed Two Brothers’ scripted format Liar to be adapted in Botswana

Liar stars Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd

MIPCOM: Liar, the UK scripted format produced by All3Media-backed Two Brothers, is set to be adapted in Botswana with local production entity Botswana Ignite.

All3Media’s distribution arm, All3Media international, said this is the first time one of its scripted formats has been adapted in Sub-Saharan Africa.

London-headquartered All3Media International noted that additional versions of Liars are in various stages of development in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, though did not disclose where or who was overseeing the adaptations.

The format, which was initially produced for ITV in the UK and starred Ioan Gruffudd and Joanne Froggatt, explores themes of consent and modern-day gender politics. It has previously been adapted in 10 territories including India, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece and Malaysia.

Duncan Irvine, executive producer and project director of Botswana Ignite said the project will provide a “great opportunity for the Botswana film industry to learn and springboard from.”

The deal was announced on the first morning of Mipcom here in Cannes.
